A Storied Past

Located in the hills just above Kingstown, the Botanical Gardens are the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. They were established in 1765 and originally supplied food to St. Vincent’s residents.

Notably, the infamous Captain Bligh imported the breadfruit tree from Tahiti and planted it in these gardens. To visitors’ enjoyment, this Vincentian superfood is still prominently on display.

Colorful Flora & Fauna

Today, the Botanical Gardens conserve the rare, treasured species of the Caribbean. Among its wonders is the Soufriere tree, the national flower of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The garden’s most playful inhabitant, the St. Vincent Parrot, also graces the site with its intricate coloring and singsong chirp.

Meander through the Botanical Gardens, and admire the natural beauty of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A small entrance fee will help preserve our island’s rare tropical species, and a guided tour is available. The gardens are open 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily.
